Man Utd ‘in talks with Benfica defender’s £86m agent’ as they set up a shortlisted three-man list

Manchester United are reportedly in talks with a Benfica star after placing him on a three-man move wish list.

The Red Devils are reportedly looking to strengthen their defensive line in the summer window.

Last month we revealed how United and Chelsea went for Benfica’s Antonio Silva.

The 20-year-old defender has been back to normal since he graduated from the club’s academy.

And his performances have attracted an increasing number of observers from teams across Europe to observe him.

But O Jogo newspaper claimed United were leading the search and “already knew everything” about him.

They claim that the Premier League has seen Silva in “many competitions” at club and country and are confident he would be a star for them.

Reportedly, they have already contacted and held talks with Gestifute, the firm representing the Portugal international.

And now, United are preparing to make an offer for him this summer, despite his release clause being £86 million.

Silva, who has more than 3 years left on his contract, has been capped seven times by Portugal and a member of their squad for the 2022 World Cup.

However, O Jogo also said Silva is just one of three possible goals on United’s short list for defensive reinforcements.

They have made signing a new defender their most sensible priority and, as we previously reported, are keen to bring in Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton.

But Tottenham and many other more sensible groups are ready to challenge Erik ten Hag for the 21-year-old’s signing.

Therefore, United are also keeping an eye on the possibility of 20-year-old Giorgio Scalvini from Atalanta.

The Italian international has a key component in Atalanta’s rearguard and has already been capped seven times by his country.

But last month we found out how his club had charged him a whopping £51m.
