MANCHESTER UNITED have seen a bid rejected for Southampton’s Jason Wilcox after a paltry offer.
The championship club have been frustrated by United’s attempt to sack their director of football with 8 games left in the season as the Saints push to return to the Premier League.
Wilcox moved from Manchester City to St. Mary’s last summer.
But he is already considered a key player in Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s behind-the-scenes rebuild at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils want Wilcox as their new head coach as part of a football overhaul at the club.
United have reportedly presented Southampton with a refund of around a year’s salary.
This was also rejected as failing to meet Southampton’s expectations for such a high-ranking figure.
That offer and the timing angered the Saints hierarchy.
Wilcox is said to be keen to move and, according to Fabrizio Romano, has now tendered his resignation from Southampton following his refusal to settle for Man Utd’s terms.
The hurdle, however, is widespread reports that Wilcox has a 12-month runtime.

“Wilcox was instrumental in the renewal of Southampton’s coaching staff and team. “
Last summer he managed Russell Martin as manager and oversaw a turbulent transfer window following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
The former Blackburn Rovers winger is believed to be keen to join Ratcliffe’s revolution at Old Trafford.
Wilcox has worked alongside new chief executive Omar Berrada at Manchester City and would work with Dan Ashworth, who joins from Newcastle United as director of football.
