Manuel Ugarte and his agent are racing to make sure the Uruguayan moves to Old Trafford before the summer moving window closes. However, there are rumours that the Red Devils have other opportunities in midfield.
The Red Devils have been following Ugarte for several weeks, however, ESPN’s Rob Dawson reports that the club is willing to spend too much on the 23-year-old midfielder.
Ugarte is willing to sign for Manchester United and his latest verbal offer reaches 45 million euros. However, the Premier League side have other players in mind for their midfield.
Diario AS (h/t TeamTalk) that Manchester United and Aston Villa are “in the picture” to sign Atalanta star Ederson Silva.
The Spanish media mentions that the ‘Red Devils’ are in talks with all interested parties and are contemplating him as an option if they fail to secure Ugarte.
However, it is clear that he is a player cotizado. AS reported that Atletico Madrid are also interested and made an offer of £38m for the 25-year-old, whose contract runs until 2027, which was rejected earlier this summer.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported this week that Ugarte was pushing “like crazy” to sign for Manchester United, with his agent Jorge Mendes leading the negotiations. More talks are expected to take place in the coming days.
It seems, however, that the English club will put all their eggs in Ugarte’s basket and will keep his functions open in this last stretch of the summer transfer window.
