The 28-year-old John Atkinson remedy became mild, as the response from emergency facilities became mild on the day of the Manchester investigation.
Atkinson was not evacuated from the blast site until 46 minutes after suicide bomber Salman Abedi detonated his homemade shell-filled bomb in the City Room, the arena lobby, at the end of an Ariana Grande concert.
Mr. Atkinson was taken on a makeshift stretcher to a sorting domain at Victoria Station, which is part of the arena site, and remained there for another 24 minutes. But chest compressions didn’t start on him until an hour and 15 minutes after his first injury from the blast.
He was one of 22 killed and loaded wounded in the attack on May 22, 2017.
Paul Greaney QC, Suggested for Investigation, said: “John Atkinson’s survival question is, as we will explore, a factor that the Investigation must consider. “
The investigation heard:
l The first paramedic arrived on the scene in the city corridor 19 minutes after the explosion and the only one there during the first 40 minutes;
l Only a stretcher was used in the incident, and many other casualties were transported using security gates, makeshift luggage racks, or carried by weapons;
l The fire service, which did have stretchers, only arrived on scene two hours and six minutes after the bomb went off:
A terrorist exercise, corresponding to reality, had taken up position in the City Room less than a year before the attack.
Mr. Greaney said it is vital to recognize the great stress and agony of the emergency service worker corps at that time. “In the first ten minutes, at least 12 officers from the BTP (British Transport Police) had approached or were in the vicinity of the City Room,” he said. “Those who entered offered help to those they found. Well-timed research can conclude that by behaving as they did, they showed the most productive of humanity, acting selflessly.
