LONDON: Pep Guardiola has ended hypotheses about his long career at Manchester City after signing a new two-year extension on Thursday.
Guardiola was due to be out of contract at the end of this season and it had been reported that the Spaniard could be in a position to leave City.
But the 49-year-old now agreed to remain in the Etihad stadium until at least 2023.
“Manchester City are pleased to announce that Pep Guardiola has signed a new two-year contract with the club,” he said on the City website.
Former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach Guardiola is in the middle of his fifth Premier League crusade and his new deal will make bigger what is already his longest period in a club.
It has won two Premier League names, 3 League Cups and the FA Cup with City, winning the club’s First Champions League name has been complicated so far.
In the midst of the turmoil at his former club, Barcelona, Guardiola found himself connected to a return to Camp Nou.
But he reportedly told the city hierarchy that he was in a position to settle for the new deal in the recent foreign breakup.
“Since I came to Manchester City I have felt very welcome at the club and in the city itself, from the players, the staff, the fans, other people from Manchester and the president and owner,” Guardiola said.
“Since then, we have completed a lot together, score goals, win and trophies, and we are all very proud of this success.
“Having this kind of thing is the most productive a technician can have. I have everything I can wish for to do my homework well and I am revered for the trust that the owner, the president, Ferran (Soriano) and Txiki (Begiristain) have shown in me to continue for another two years after this season.
“The challenge for us is to continue and evolve and I am very pleased to help Manchester City do so. “
‘Mutual trust’
It is the idea that even the city’s president, Khaldoon Mubarak, and the club’s other intermediaries expected Guardiola to make her decision at this stage.
But they will be grateful that Guardiola has given him the uncertainty and can now concentrate on his return to the race by the name of the Premier League.

“Above all, it is a validation of the design and philosophy that they have been built for more than a decade and to which it has contributed so much.
City has won 181 of 245 games with Guardiola and set Premier League records for winning the 2017-18 Premier League name with a hundred points.
They were champions in 2019, but finished 18 issues in Liverpool last season.
Going beyond the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time since he took over from City in 2016 is also a top goal for Guardiola, who last won the European elite club festival with Barcelona in 2011.
