Manchester City Gareth Taylor calls for more ‘cruelty’ after Reading draw

Manchester City manager Gareth Taylor has suggested that his team be more “clinical” after wasting several opportunities in the 1–1 draw with Reading.

Last season’s Women’s Super League finalists recovered from the lead and tied things 11 minutes after halftime when Sam Mewis scored his third goal in five games.

But Taylor’s team failed to put their tension in the last hour and ultimately failed to continue their loss to Chelsea with 3 very important points.

“You win this game 5-1 or 6-1 some other day with the number of opportunities we had. It’s disappointing, however, there were elements of the functionality that I’m satisfied with,” he told the club’s website.

“They never looked like they were scoring outdoors from the minute they had when Ellie (Roebuck) made a stop and they scored in the corner that turned out. Bad purpose to give.

“They wanted to slow down the game, even in the first part. We had a few chances and it was amazing that the ball didn’t come in with so many nudges in the mouth of the goal. “

City now has 8 problems out of five WSL games and is already seven problems adrift from Arsenal at the most sensible on the table.

But despite his modest fifth position in the run-up to rest abroad, Taylor still sees positives in the way his team plays.

“I told players to stay positive and the importance of not giving anything in those difficult times,” he added.

“The team showed intelligent character, coming back on purpose and betting our way. We are disappointed – we are looking to come back with a win.

“I’d worry if we didn’t create opportunities, but we are, we just want to be more ruthless and clinical. “
