Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says Spurs would be “offended” if they said they didn’t need to win a game.

Pep Guardiola says the question of whether Tottenham Hotspur wouldn’t need to beat Manchester City would “offend” the team and their manager.

Man City will move back to the top of the Premier League, and one step closer to the name for the fourth successive season, if they beat fifth-placed Spurs at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday night.

But if Spurs win – or hold City to a draw – north London rivals Arsenal will have a better chance of winning the league for the first time in more than two decades.

Asked if he had ever met a team that didn’t need to win a game, Guardiola told Sky News presenter Jacquie Beltrão: “I’ll give you a piece of advice: don’t ask that question to Angel [Postecoglou] and his players, don’t do it.

“Don’t do it, they’d be offended. “

His comment comes after Postecoglou insisted that Spurs would not “roll out the red carpet” for City, although a win for his side would leave Arsenal at the top of the table.

“We’ve got a football game to win and that’s what we’re going to try to do,” he said. “Manchester City haven’t won it yet and if you think that’s the case, it becomes a challenge because we’re moving forward. “I’m going to roll out the red carpet for them and I’m not going to do that.

“I’m not going to go in there and watch them win. That doesn’t suit me. “

City have never won a Premier League game at Tottenham’s new stadium, which they moved to in 2019.

Man City and Arsenal will play their final games of the season on Sunday, May 19.

City will face ninth-placed West Ham at the Etihad Stadium, while Arsenal will face fifteenth-placed Everton in the Emirates.
