According to the Blues’ official website, the new kit has been specially designed with “Manchester on its fabric” thanks to the 0161 phone graphic sewn into the fabric on the sleeves and neckline.
Serena Gosling, Manchester City’s Director of Integrated Fan Experience, Retail and Licensing, spoke about the new design and its connection with the club’s fans:
“Each year, our uniforms provide us with the opportunity to connect with our enthusiasts in Manchester, the UK and around the world, as wider jerseys and uniform collections are a popular badge of fandom. By incorporating ‘0161’ into this year’s home kit, anything that resonates so strongly in the city of Manchester – we can unite enthusiasts from around the world with the club and our city in a different way. “
The kit is made with Puma’s RE:FIBRE generation, which transforms textile waste and used fabrics into new textiles by chemically breaking them down.
The use of the 0161 postcode on the blouse is sure to fuel the already intense rivalry between City and Manchester United. The Blues have controlled the Manchester Derby in recent years with a 7-2 record against United between the Premier League and FA Cup since then. the beginning of 2021.
United will have the chance to send a message when the rivalry is renewed in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on May 25. Man City beat the Red Devils in last year’s final 2-1 in their first FA Cup championship since 2018-19. season.
Heading into the upcoming Manchester derby crash, City will have to put the finishing touch to a brilliant Premier League season with a title.
The Blues head into the final weekend of the festival two points ahead of Arsenal for first place. They will secure their name with a win against West Ham at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday or an Arsenal defeat/draw against Everton.
