Manchester City will be influential midfielder Kevin De Bruyne for four to six weeks, confirmed by manager Pep Guardiola. (More from Football Mews)
De Bruyne, the current PFA Player of the Year, has returned in a superb form for City this season, scoring 3 goals and offering 10 Premier League assists.
Guardiola’s team has a six-win streak in the league, a streak that leaves them well placed in the race by name: two leading Manchester United issues with a game in hand.
But De Bruyne was forced to leave after an hour of a close 2-0 win on Wednesday against Aston Villa and, speaking before Saturday’s FA Cup to Ligue 2 in Cheltenham Town, Guardiola highlighted the extent of the Belgian international’s hamr tendon injury.
“Kevin, as the doctor said after a scan yesterday, will be between 4 and six weeks,” he said.
There was better news for right-back Kyle Walker, who is expected to return after the weekend after suffering a hip injury in Villa’s game, but the concentrate has naturally fallen to De Bruyne, who will now miss a potentially difficult to undertake. The champions staggered Liverpool at Anfield on 7 February.
