Manchester City’s Premier League clash with West Ham was postponed on Sunday due to security considerations amid Storm Ciara’s risk (more football news).
Sporting events across the UK, and indeed in continental Europe, have been affected by strong winds and heavy rains brought by the weather front.
The city tweeted the cancellation confirmation about five hours before the scheduled start time at Etihad Stadium.
“Due to excessive and serious weather situations and in the interests of protecting enthusiasts and staff, the Adjustment of the Premier League opposed to West Ham was postponed,” said the tweet.
Pep Guardiola is said to have sought a reaction to back-to-back losses to Manchester United and Tottenham.
Other high-level occasions to be canceled are the Rhine derby between Borussia Monchengladbach and Cologne in the Bundesliga, the full Eredivisie schedule and the two Super League matches.
