Manchester City’s sponsor, Etihad Airways, has reached a new sponsorship deal with Girona FC.
The Middle Eastern airline has extended its sponsorship within the City Football Group, with Etihad Airways being one of Manchester City’s flagship sponsors since 2009, and the association adds stadium naming rights and front-of-pack sponsorship of shorts.
Manchester City’s home was renamed Etihad Stadium as part of the deal, and the Sky Blues will also return from the UEFA Champions League final in 2023 on a special Etihad plane.
The airline has extended its sponsorship within the City Football Group ahead of the 2024/25 season, announcing a partnership with La Liga club Girona FC, who have qualified for next season’s Champions League.
The Catalan club finished third in La Liga to qualify for European competition, with Real Madrid and Barcelona ahead of Michel’s side.
Manchester City and Girona are two of the thirteen groups that make up the City Football Group network, with clubs all over the world, in addition to the Americas, India, Australia and Brazil.
Girona’s new partnership with Etihad will make the airline its main sponsor for a payment of €2 million per season, according to Spanish journalist Nil Solà.
The club’s website reads: “Etihad Airways will become the main sponsor of Girona FC from next season. This strategic alliance, established for a 3-year era, underlines Etihad’s deep commitment to the Spanish market and its commitment to publishing connectivity and cultural exchange.
“Etihad has increased its operations in Spain by almost 50% since last summer, as until 2024 the airline will operate 10 weekly flights to Madrid and Barcelona. In addition, the airline is very happy to introduce seasonal flights, operating 3 times a week to Malaga from June 2024, improvement and tourism between regions.
“This partnership represents a shared commitment to excellence, community, and the strength to bring other people and cultures together. Girona FC, with its history and passionate fans, aligns perfectly with Etihad’s values of unleashing ambition and pursuing the highest standards in all its endeavors. »
