Manchester United agree terms as they embark on their third summer signing

NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

Manchester United are nearing the end of their third signing of the summer transfer window after reaching an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

The Red Devils are going to add the Uruguayan to their squad, after having already announced the signings of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro.

Transfer Fabrizio Romano reports that the terms of the contract were discussed and agreed between the Premier League club and the 23-year-old, and Ugarte is keen to move to Old Trafford.

However, no agreement has yet been reached as there is no agreement between Manchester United and PSG yet and negotiations are ongoing.

Other clubs are also interested in the defensive midfielder, the Red Devils are obviously in a good position to sign.

Ugarte signed for PSG from Sporting last summer for a £51m payment and played 37 games in all competitions for the French giants last season, without scoring a goal.

Although that payment was only made 12 months ago, when the Uruguayan signed a five-year contract, The Guardian reports that PSG could be willing to sell him this summer for just €45m (£38m).

Centre-back Yoro, 18, was unveiled as Manchester United’s second summer signing in a £52million move from Lille on Thursday night.

This followed the arrival of Zirkzee from Bologna on Sunday for a £36. 5m payment, following a final Serie A season for the Dutch striker.

Even if they do get Ugarte, it may not be the end of things at Old Trafford this summer, as they are still looking for another centre-back.

Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite are on the radar, but sales will have to be made for United to keep buying.

Mason Greenwood left the club for Marseille on Thursday, while Donny van de Beek, Willy Kambwala and Álvaro Fernández were also sold.

Scott McTominay and Aaron Wan-Bissaka can stay with them from the start, with Fulham and West Ham interested respectively.
