Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has been released through a Greek prosecutor after appearing in court on Saturday after two days in detention for a fight on Mykonos Island, Premier League club confirmed.
England’s foreigner Maguire, 27, will respond to the rates against him on 25 August, according to police.
In a statement, Manchester United said: “Following today’s court appearance, we note the postponement of the case to allow the legal team to review the case.
“Harry has asked that the charges not be blamed. It would be useless for the player or club to make additional comments while the legal process is ongoing.”
Citing a local website, Mykonosvoice.gr, Greek newspaper Ethnos said the rates opposed to Maguire, for having an altercation, were misdemeanors.
Under Greek law, this means that Maguire can be represented through his lawyers in court at a hearing, rather than appearing personally.
Maguire’s lawyer was no longer promptly counted on to comment.
Manchester United had previously aired on a Friday saying that they were aware of the incident and that Maguire was cooperating fully with the Greek authorities.
Maguire joined United from Leicester City for 80 million pounds ($105 million), a world record for a defender, in August 2019.
He had travelled to Mykonos after United’s departure from the Europa League last week.
Mykonos is well known to tourists for its nightlife scene. The process took place in a courthouse on the nearby island of Syros.
According to Greek state television ERT, police officers were attacked after being called into a fight between two teams of tourists on Thursday night.
