United have shown investment from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, however, the deal is still subject to Premier League approval, meaning they will not be able to make effect on signings just yet.
Erik ten Hag, however, will be keeping an eye out for possible arrivals and, in all likelihood, will get rid of the dead wood.

Casemiro has stated that striker Rasmus Hojlund can ‘define an era’ for Manchester United as he threw his support behind the Denmark internaional.
Speaking on the club’s website about the 20-year-old, he said: “At the end of the day, he’s just a kid, so we shouldn’t put too much pressure on him.
“A lot of people think he came in and scored 30 goals straight away. He’s still young and it’s his first season in the Premier League. “
He added: “He’s definitely betting more on every game and he’s running hard. Rasmus is a committed guy and he can’t wait to get started. “
“He will be a wonderful player for this club and, with the ambitions he has, he may define an era at Manchester United. “
Manchester United reportedly have a plan to land Michael Olise – by sending Aaron Wan-Bissaka back to Crystal Palace.
The Daily Star claims that the Red Devils were satisfied to negotiate a one-year extension option on Wan-Bissaka’s contract last month so that the Eagles could re-sign their former academy graduate for a reasonable or slack price this summer.
The report adds that it also puts United in a stronger position in discussions for Olise.
Manchester United are the clubs interested in signing Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen.
Spanish outlet Sport report the Red Devils have joined Newcastle in the race to land the former Chelsea defender.
The 27-year-old, who spent 10 years at Stamford Bridge, is among the players expected to leave the Camp Nou side soon due to Barca’s financial woes.
Is that why Manchester United are so keen to get rid of Casemiro?
After a surprising first campaign, the Brazilian struggled mightily for his fitness this time with just 8 appearances.
The 31-year-old has just returned after being sidelined since early November with a hamstring injury.
Manchester United are struggling to get rid of Casemiro, according to reports.
The Sun claims that the new regime, led by Sir Jim Radcliffe, is willing to sack the Brazilian in order to reduce the Red Devils’ wage bill.
But the report adds that the stumbling block is that Casemiro still has two-and-a-half years left on his £350,000-a-week contract.
Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund have yet reached an agreement on the loan of Jadon Sancho.
It is understood that Sancho is willing to return to Signal Iduna Park, with the German giants hoping to reach a transitional agreement in January.
Sancho has recently been out of the Red Devils squad after attacking boss Erik ten Hag on social media.
But according to Sky Germany, the England international is yet to have been given the green light by United.
He said there were “ongoing issues” with the main points of the loan transfer.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has sent a “do or die” message to his team ahead of facing Wigan in the FA Cup.
The Red Devils face the Liga One side in the third round on Monday night, with the Dutchman desperate for an early exit.
Speaking to club media, he said: “We’ve had a very complicated programme in 2023.
“I think it’s one of the toughest schedules of any club in Europe, we’ve played so many games, so we want to take the time to refresh and prepare for the second part of the season.
“We have a lot to play for in the Premier League and the FA Cup. In the Cup it’s a matter of do or die.
“We have to be in a position because our opponent will be 100 per cent consistent with Cent, especially in a cup against Manchester United.
“We have to be ready and, just like the expectations for every game, we have to win. It doesn’t matter if we’re away or at home, we have to win games. Every game and every league is different. “
“One thing is the same: you have to be ready, have the right technique and concentrate and find a way to win. I appreciate cup football. It’s going to be a big game, the crowd will be hostile, so enjoy it and get ready. “”.
Everton have reportedly entered the race to sign Manchester United star Hannibal Mejbri on loan.
The 20-year-old thinks he is close to closing a deal with Sevilla for the remainder of the season.
But according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Toffees are now going to deflect action from the Spaniards.
The decision finally rests with the Tunisian player, who is looking to play football in the first team.
Hannibal has made five Premier League appearances this season and scored in a 3-1 loss to Brighton in September.
Timo Werner will be keen to prove his doubters wrong as he prepares to return to the Premier League.
Tottenham are the latest on a loan deal to sign the RB Leipzig striker, with a permanent signing included in the deal.
His time at Chelsea hasn’t gone exactly as planned, but with Manchester United and Liverpool in the past connected: Werner, after all, is about to find out why he’s so highly rated?
Timo Werner has been left out of RB Leipzig’s matchday squad for their friendly against Swiss side St. Gallen.
Werner is reportedly in talks with Tottenham to return to the Premier League on loan.
The former Chelsea striker connected with a move to Manchester United, but Spurs have overtaken the Red Devils and are now leading the race to sign him.
And Leipzig have shown that Werner will play in their winter friendly as they are in talks over his departure in January.
A team update posted via the club on social media read: “Timo Werner is not in the squad for today’s friendly as he is in talks with the club. “
talkSPORT host Mark Goldbridge was never fully convinced by Manchester United’s pursuit of Timo Werner.
In his exclusive column on the emergence of Tottenham links, Goldbridge said: “There are fears about it; the main fear of all those goals is that they are just on point or in terms of the enthusiasm that Manchester United need.
“You’d go with Ivan Toney or Victor Osimhen.
“But I believe in relation to what’s available at the moment and the money Man United have, you’ve got to shop in a certain outlet where people like Werner are the most viable options.
“I don’t think Timo Werner at Chelsea was as bad as people think. I think he missed a lot of chances, but his overall game is decent.
“And what we’re here is a short-term option until the summer, it’s not a long-term signing unless it’s operational.
“I mean, as sad as it sounds, if it’s Timo Werner or nothing, then I’m certainly going to take Timo Werner, and I think I’d also probably take Timo Werner over some of the other options linked around Manchester United.
“Yeah, it’s not exciting, but in January, with no money, I think it’s pretty much the peak of what Manchester United can achieve at the moment, if you look at Wout Weghorst and Odion Ighalo from last time.
In recent weeks, rumours have surfaced linking Timo Werner with a return to the Premier League with Manchester United.
He stated that he was not satisfied with his situation in Germany.
The 27-year-old returns to the Bundesliga in 2022 after two difficult seasons with Chelsea and re-signs for RB Leipzig.
He scored 18 goals in 54 games in his second spell in charge, but his role has been reduced this season with just two starts in the league.
Werner – who cost Chelsea between £45million and £50million when they signed him in 2020 – is therefore keen on at the possibility of a return to the English top flight, with United holding talks to explore the possibility of recruiting him.
However, Spurs are now on the verge of landing a loan deal and that seems to be their likely maximum destination at the moment.
Werner is widely considered a flop at Chelsea, where he scored 23 goals in 89 games across two seasons with the club.
He won the Champions League at the time, but was not considered a member of the team.
Tottenham are in advanced talks with RB Leipzig over a surprise loan move for Timo Werner, talkSPORT understands.
Former Chelsea striker Werner needs to return to the Premier League.
Manchester United have also held exploratory talks over a move for Werner but Spurs have jumped ahead of them in the race.
Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has urged his team to go far in the FA Cup as they begin their campaign against Wigan, live on talkSPORT.
Erik ten Hag’s side will travel to the DW Stadium on Monday afternoon to face the League One side, who beat York 1-0 to reach the third round.
United have already won the festival 12 times in their history and as they prepare for their first game of the new year, Eriksen hopes the team can start the year 2024 with a win.
He told MUTV: “I heard the other day that it’s the oldest tournament in the world and as I said, I’ve lived in England for a long time and the FA Cup has been something special for the fans and players. Every club there.
“It’s definitely a smart start to the year, I think we’re going to take it very seriously. There will be fewer games in the new year (after being eliminated from European football), it’s up to us to have a “We have a lot more important games in the league and we’ll go far in the FA Cup”.
Mark Goldbridge has expressed his doubts about Manchester United’s bid for Thomas Müller.
He told talkSPORT. com: “Listen, five years ago that would have been a signing and that’s reminiscent of Bastian Schweinsteiger, where we were all very excited as United fans.
“But then we understood very temporarily why Bayern Munich would let go of a player of that prestige, and I suspect it would be very good for Thomas Müller.
“He’s played his whole career in Munich, so coming to the Premier League when he was 30 years old with the competitive nature and the intensity of it, the games every week. We’ve heard a lot of Bundesliga players say that the Premier League is very attractive. “. Opening, that there are no games where you can take things easy, each and every match is intense.
“And he’s going to get a very high salary.
“I just think United would be stupid if they made a deal like this, stupid, they’ve made those mistakes so many times, that’s not the kind of signing Manchester United deserve to make. “
Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund are still in the process of fine-tuning the terms of Jadon Sancho’s loan, according to talkSPORT.
The £73million forward is expected to return to Dortmund this month after falling out with United boss Erik ten Hag.
A framework agreement between the two clubs remains in place, but talkSPORT’s resources claim that the main points still need to be resolved.
Manchester United may have sent Sergio Reguilon back to Tottenham, but they’re reportedly eyeing another Spurs full-back.
According to the Independent, United have been in close contact with the loan of Reguilon, from north London, and will use this “open channel” to discuss Sessegnon’s future.
The former England U21 star has seen his time at Tottenham ravaged by injuries.
Sessegnon has not played a minute this season after undergoing surgery in the summer but is now back in training.
Mark Goldbridge has reacted with horror to the news that Manchester United are linked with a move to sign Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
He told talkSPORT.com: “For me, that has to be one of the worst options we’ve been linked to.
“At the age of 34, he did well at Bayern, but I think I would probably do well at Bayern if you gave me some games. There are so many smart players there who win the championship every year.
“I think leaving Bayern Munich at the age of 34, where you dominate a league, to come and play for Manchester United where we don’t and where it’s competitive, I think he would be at the level of Weghorst.
“It’s one thing to bring in an Edinson Cavani, a Zlatan Ibrahimovic or a Cristiano Ronaldo in his 30s, but Choupo-Moting is a no. It’s embarrassing. It’s ridiculously short term. “
The talkSPORT presenter said: “It would be a permanent move, it wouldn’t be a short-term option, he has a clause of around €17. 5m, which is around £15m.
“He’s scored a lot of goals for Stuttgart this season but, again, he’s 28 and who else needs him?Do Arsenal need him? Do Chelsea need him? No, Manchester United need him and I think, again, it’s a primary concern.
“It’s better to stay with someone like Timo Werner until the summer and fire him if he’s not smart enough.
“But if you look at a player like Guirassy, he might be a lightning striker who just scored a couple of goals in Stuttgart.
“I don’t think he is the right signing for Manchester United and, in fact, I don’t think they will make permanent deals like this in January when INEOS comes in to do a full strategic review.
“It’s good for this kid if he discovers targets at a higher level, but I think he’s a big threat to Manchester United. “
In an exclusive column for talkSPORT.com, Mark Goldbridge has offered his verdict on Timo Werner being linked with a January move to Manchester United.
He said: “You’d pass for Ivan Toney or Victor Osimhen.
“I mean, as unhappy as it sounds, if it’s Timo Werner or nothing, then I’ll pick Timo Werner, and I think I’d probably pick Timo Werner over some of the other characteristics related to Manchester United as well.
“Yeah, it’s not exciting, but in January, with no money, I think it’s pretty much the maximum of what Manchester United can achieve at the moment, if you look at Wout Weghorst and Odion Ighalo last time. “
Manchester United legend Mark Hughes has Erik ten Hag’s interest in Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
Huges, speaking about the Stoke player, told Sky Sports: “I think it’s a pressing need at the moment.
“I had Choupo-Moting at Stoke and I had myself at the club.
“He’s a wonderful guy, he’s been given a wonderful personality and he can play clearly.
“He’s more of a player who would be a substitute.
“I’m not sure whether or not he can lead a team by himself. But in terms of bringing to the Premier League, he has that understanding, a bit like Timo Werner, who has revelled at Chelsea, which is a genuine consideration.
“In terms of capacity, they fit the bill, but I’m sure they can make a big difference for United. “
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford have reportedly issued a rallying cry to Manchester United’s management.
The Athletic claim that Ratcliffe has told club staff he is not concerned about making money from his investment.
The report adds that the British billionaire, who has now officially taken over football operations at Old Trafford, instead solely wants to return United to winning the biggest trophies.
Mary Earps has reportedly turned a corner in her long career and will now remain at Manchester United.
The Daily Telegraph report that the England No.1 is weighing up remaining at Old Trafford beyond the end of her existing contract, despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG, who have Dutch Lieke Martens and French Marie Antoinette Katoto, have already expressed interest in signing the Lionesses’ goalkeeper.
The report adds that it is understood that Earps is still unsure of her future, but either way she has not given up the hypothesis.
The World Cup Golden Glove winner, who can now talk about pre-contractual agreements with foreign clubs, enjoyed a relaxing vacation in the Caribbean during the winter break.
Arsenal had a bid rejected for Earps last summer and are thought to be still interested should she become a free agent at the end of the season.
Man United have been told that they should be relieved to get £5m for Jadon Sancho as he closes in on a return to Borussia Dortmund.
Simon Jordan of talkSPORT believes the England striker never valued the £70m-plus spent on him in 2021.
Jadon Sancho’s proposed return to Borussia Dortmund has reportedly been delayed after a last-minute hitch.
Sancho is due to complete his loan spell at Manchester United today by joining Dortmund’s educational camp in Marbella.
However, local German newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten revealed that Sancho’s personal plane to Marbella, on which he was due to travel this morning, had been cancelled at short notice.
