Manchester United have downplayed the hypothesis that Bruno Fernandes is one of Paris Saint-Germajor’s main targets this summer and reiterated that it would take a “big offer” to convince them to sell.
Fernandes has been arguably United’s most productive and top player since his £68million move from Sporting Lisbon in 2019, scoring 54 goals and providing 41 assists in 159 Premier League appearances.
The Portuguese star, who played extensively at Euro 2024 with Roberto Martínez’s quarterfinalists, is also one of the most influential players in the English top flight.
Fernandes’ form has not improved, as several European clubs and Saudi powerhouses have expressed interest in securing his signature.
The 29-year-old was very much linked to his departure from Old Trafford towards the end of last season and, although he insisted he wanted to stay, he also said the club had to live up to his expectations.
Fernandes needs to fight for major trophies, but Manchester United finished only eighth last season and will not compete in the Champions League this year.
Paris Saint-Germain may be offering Fernandes a chance in Europe’s most sensible club competition, having won some other Ligue 1 names last season and reached the Champions League semi-finals before a disappointing loss to finalists Borussia Dortmund.
Reports in France that PSG have introduced a surprise move for Fernandes and intend to bring midfielder and United teammate Jadon Sancho to the French capital this summer.
But ESPN say Manchester United remain relaxed about Fernandes’ future and believe the PSG links have been overblown.
They have also indicated privately that they would settle for a monumental offer to convince them to sell a player who has been named Manchester United’s Player of the Year three times since joining the club.
In March, Fernandes said he “loved” gambling for Manchester United and was looking to stay, as long as his ambitions were fulfilled.
“I love going to Old Trafford more than anything in the world. I don’t need to leave. That’s been my biggest dream,” Fernandes told the Players’ Tribune.
“I just need my expectations to match those of the club. If you communicate with any fan, they will tell you the same thing.
“We have to compete for the league, play football in the Champions League, be in the cup final. This is the norm.
