NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Manchester United have told Paris Saint-Germain that they are not willing to pay the €70m (£58. 9m) they are asking for Manuel Ugarte, according to reports in France.
United were quick to secure two new signings this month, following last week’s €42. 5m (£36. 5m) move for Joshua Zirkzee by agreeing a £52m deal for the centre-back. Lille, Leny Yoro, on Thursday.
United are now aiming to strengthen Erik ten Hag’s midfield and have made signing Ugarte their next priority.
United are understood to have agreed a non-public deal with the Uruguay international, who needs a move to Old Trafford despite the lack of Champions League qualification.
However, L’Equipe reports that United and PSG are still on the sidelines in negotiations over the 23-year-old’s fee.
It is claimed that PSG will not find it easy to pay €70m (£58. 9m) for Ugarte, but United cannot meet that value without releasing the players first.
The United hierarchy now offers PSG a loan deal that includes an option to buy Ugarte at the end of the season.
PSG signed Ugarte from Portuguese club Sporting last year in a €60m (£51. 1m) deal and are keen to recoup the payment paid.
Ugarte started 27 games in all competitions for PSG last season but was left on the bench thanks to Luis Enrique in the Champions League semi-final matches against Borussia Dortmund.
Asked in an interview with Prime Video in May if he was looking to stay at PSG, Ugarte replied: “I hope so, I would love to stay here. We’ll see what happens.
Ugarte is lately on vacation after reaching the semifinals of the Copa America with Uruguay this month.
