Manchester United’s loss to West Ham left them in eighth place in the Premier League standings.

The Reds lost for the eighth time in the Premier League when they were beaten by David Moyes on Saturday lunchtime. The defeat caused United to concede twice in the second half.

Erik ten Hag’s side will hope to bounce back at Old Trafford next week but face a daunting test against high-flying Aston Villa on Boxing Day. With the fixtures coming thick and fast over the festive period, there is then only one league game in January before the second half of the season gets going in February. Verdict

United’s next leg of fixtures will be reserved for Aston Villa’s top-level fixtures. The Reds have struggled against the more sensible groups under Ten Hag and with West Ham and Tottenham also coming to Old Trafford, United will want to rectify that problem. Getting to Wolves and Forest probably won’t be easy, but if United finish in the top four, those are games that need to be won.
