Manchester United’s Smalling confirms Roma departure ahead of Europa League reboot

Manchester United’s defender Chris Smalling said he is “empty” not to worry about the rest of the Roma Europa League campaign.

The England headquarters spent the season on loan with the Serie A club, his contract was recently extended to crown the last game of the national season last weekend.

However, the most recent agreement between United and Roma covered the Europa League, a festival in which Smalling’s parent club remains involved.

“I’m devastated not to finish what we started this season,” Smalling wrote on Twitter along with 4 photos of himself wearing a Roma T-shirt.

“Experience the love that showed me in such a very special time and that will not be forgotten.

“I want to thank and wish all the players and the most productive luck that opposes Seville. GIVE ROME!”

Smalling, 30, played 30 of Roma’s Serie A matches and finished fifth, while also making five starts in the Europa League.

Although Smalling now returns to Old Trafford, he is eligible for the remainder of United’s Europa League campaign.

This would possibly be a tale for United’s loan exporter Alexis Sanchez who spent the 2019–2020 season in Serie A.

Inter has included the Chilean striker on their roster for the final stages of the Europa League before their adjustment of the last 16 games with Getafe this week.

For Sanchez to worry beyond that, Inter and United would have to reach agreement on a longer-term agreement.
