Manchester United have made headlines in their pursuit of Atalanta midfielder Ederson as his value is said to be too high for fellow fans Barcelona.
The 24-year-old has enjoyed an extraordinary season for the Serie A club and as a result, many clubs across Europe have been closely following his progress.
The Brazilian has represented him 36 times this season, scoring six goals and providing one assist.
In fact, the Red Devils have reportedly been keeping an eye on him for some time now, as reports surfaced in January that they were going to attack the Campo Grande native.
Also, to underline United’s interest, the club have been watching him intensively in February and this month with a view to potentially replacing the declining and injury-prone Casemiro.
As usual, the Old Trafford team will have a loose play as Fichajes unites a multitude of clubs in the defensive midfield. They list AC Milan, Inter Milan, Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and Tottenham as other groups interested in signing him this summer.
However, Barcelona are a team that has been a risk for United lately.
The Spanish outlet admits that “the Brazilian midfielder is one of Barça’s big targets for next season” and that “he already knows the value of Ederson”.
Unfortunately for the Catalan club, this is where it gets complicated.
The move praises the combative midfielder, describing him as “one of the most outstanding figures” in Serie A this season.
Therefore, it will be reasonable and the “initial value announced may be around 50 million euros, an unaffordable amount at the moment for the Barça club”.
The Catalan club’s monetary turmoil is well documented and it is unlikely that the Italian side will offer them a discounted deal with a plethora of clubs, especially Premier League teams, waiting in the wings to raise the price.
There is still plenty of competition, but if United strengthen their interest in the Brazilian midfielder, the fact that Barcelona are out of the deal will not hurt the Old Trafford side’s chances of signing him.
