Marco van Basten has subsidised Arne Slot to update Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager this summer.
After guiding Feyenoord to their first Eredivisie name in six years last season, Slot searched through Tottenham, but the 45-year-old opted to sign a new three-year contract with the Dutch club.
Slot has enjoyed great luck this season as he guided Feyenoord to victory over NEC Nijmegen in the KNVB Cup final this weekend.
And the Dutchman is now heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer, as Liverpool look for a replacement for Klopp.
“I think it’s good,” Van Basten said of Slot on Ziggo Sport’s “Rondo. “
“I hope he stays longer in Holland because it’s an enrichment for Dutch football. It can happen anywhere: Bayern Munich, Liverpool. . . I am convinced of that.
“I’ve spoken to him a few times and I think what he’s doing and what he’s seeing is very strong. He gets along very well with the organisation of the players, he knows the tactics well, he knows how to do things well and he is calm”. and smart. I think he can happen to any club, even the most complicated clubs, because he’s very smart.
“He has a lot of qualities and he shows them at every level. First he did it at AZ and now at Feyenoord. Feyenoord is a confusing club. He has done well for more than three years, while PSV and Ajax have done well at all levels. A lot more features in terms of money.
“You may have compatibility anywhere. If AZ and Feyenoord play football, there are also big clubs like AC Milan that play football. Obviously you can see his hand where he’s the coach.
“I think it will be even less difficult for him at a higher point because he has better players who perceive his concepts more quickly. I also think he’s smart enough to deal with stubborn players.
Former Dutch foreigner Wim Jonk also subsidised Slot to succeed at Liverpool.
