Marseille registers 3 more viruses

French football giant Marseille announced Tuesday that three other people had tested positive for coronavirus, after five players last week.

“Marseille has just learned that 3 new suspected COVID-19 cases have been detected in their squad,” the club said in a statement.

Marseille, who had to cancel what would have been the start of the Ligue 1 season last Friday by existing instances of coronavirus, added that it had notified the French league of new contagions.

The five players already infected, whose names have been released, are all asymptomatic, according to the club.

In addition to Marseille, several Ligue 1 clubs have been affected by the virus, such as Nimes, Montpellier, Lens, Nice, Angers, Monaco and Brest.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain received an exemption through league officials to postpone their season opener, scheduled for Saturday against Lens, until 10 September.

PSG played in the Champions League final on Sunday, losing 1-0 to Bayern Munich, they would have spent only six days between matches.

However, his return to national service will come at a busy time, sandwiched between France’s foreign adjustment against Croatia on 8 September and the first game of the season in the French capital five days later in front of his wonderful rival Marseille.
