Mason Greenwood has left Manchester United to sign for Marseille permanently.
The French side have agreed to pay 26. 6 million pounds (31. 6 million euros) for the 22-year-old striker, who has signed a five-year contract.
United also inserted a resale clause into the deal, reportedly between 40 and 50 percent.
Lazio also made an offer to buy Greenwood, but it may be adjusted to the payment made through Marseille.
Manchester United said in a brief statement: “We wish Mason all the best in his long career. “
Greenwood, who spent last season on loan at Spanish League side Getafe, had played for United since his arrest in January 2022.
In October 2022, he charged attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault, but denied wrongdoing. He was also arrested the same day for violating the conditions of his bail.
In February 2023, all allegations against Greenwood were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service after key witnesses withdrew their involvement and new ones came to light.
United mutually agreed in August 2023, after a six-month procedure overseen by an executive committee, that the most productive thing for Greenwood was to continue his career outside of Old Trafford.
INEOS, which took over United’s football operations in December 2023 after buying a minority stake in the club, has now overseen his departure.
Greenwood first started playing for United’s youth teams aged nine and graduated through the club’s academy to senior football, making his debut aged 17 in March 2019.
