Mason Greenwood apologized for violating COVID-19 protocols while on duty in England and described his behavior as “irresponsible. “
Within hours of making his England debut against Iceland, Greenwood and Manchester City game creator Phil Foden had to leave the camp after breaking the strict biological bubble in Reykjavik.
Complaints arose in Icelandic media on Monday that Greenwood, 18, and Foden, 20, had spent time with two women during the trip, and DV media published photographs allegedly filmed through one of them.
With an FA investigation that now weighs on the couple, Greenwood published one on United’s website.
Greenwood said: “Having now had the opportunity to reflect on what happened, I can apologize to everyone for the shame I caused.
“It is irresponsible of me to break the COVID-19 protocols that are in a position to protect players, staff and the public. In particular, I would like to apologize to Gareth Southgate for disappointing him, even though he had shown me wonderful confidence. .
“Playing for England has been one of the proudest moments of my life and only I am to blame for this great mistake. I promise my family, the fans, Manchester United and England that it is a lesson I will be informed of. “
