Brighton goalkeeper Mat Ryan has joined Arsenal on loan until the end of the season.
The 28-year-old Australian alien fell out of Brighton, wasting his position on Robert Sanchez after a 3-0 loss to Leicester in December.
Last month, Brighton boss Graham Potter rejected advice that Ryan had played his last game for the Seagulls, but said he was in a position to allow him to stop by in search of normal first-team football.
“By signing for the club you supported as a kid,” Ryan wrote on Twitter. “It is very exciting to start this new bankruptcy and give everything I have to make a contribution to the first club I have ever loved. “
“We know Mat very much for his performances with Brighton in recent seasons and he brings extra quality to our team,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said on the club’s website.
“Mat has a very clever delight in the Premier League and has played more than a hundred times in the league, which will give us great advantages on and off the field. “
Despite the start of 11 of Brighton’s first 12 Premier League games this season, Ryan has been called up to Brighton’s Team of the Day in the last seven league games.
The Australian will wear the number 33 at Arsenal and compete with Bernd Leno and Alex Runarsson for the position, after Matt Macey moved on loan to Hibernian this month.
“Mat will offer a very smart and positive festival to all our goalkeepers and we look forward to temporarily integrating it into the setup here at Arsenal,” said Edu, Arsenal’s sporting director.
Ryan first joined Brighton on a 5. 4 million pound contract at the time with Valencia in 2017, and then made 121 Premier League appearances for the club, keeping 28 leaves blank.
He broke the ranks of Australian club Central Coast Mariners before impressing for Belgian club Club Brugge and being transferred to Spain in 2015.
“Mat has been a club server in the Premier League, and has played a role for the club at this level,” said Brighton manager Graham Potter.
“We have skill and festival at this club for a position and, of course, as number one in Australia, Mat needs to have more consistent opportunities. “
Analysis through Nick Wright of Sky Sports:
All Arsenal enthusiasts who have purposely seen Runar Alex Runarsson’s unconvincing performances this season will be relieved with the arrival of a new replacement for first-choice goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
Unlike Runarsson, Ryan brings a great experience. The 28-year-old has amassed 121 Premier League appearances in his three-and-a-half seasons with Brighton and has 59 games for Australia.
He disagreed with Graham Potter after conceded 19 goals in 11 games in the first few months of the season, six more knowledge than expected to recommend having, but before that it was a pair of reliable hands.
Ryan hopes to regain his form at Arsenal, where he is expected to start in cup competitions, while Mikel Arteta hopes to exploit his skill as a distributor.
Of the Premier League goalkeepers last season, only Kepa Arrizabalaga, Alisson and Ederson recorded a higher pass accuracy rate than Ryan. The Australian is smart to bet from behind, making him a smart selection for Arsenal’s style and long-range attacking ability. it’s a weapon when it comes to construction attacks.
