Star Matildas defender Ellie Carpenter has kicked off 2024 with the news of her engagement to teammate and partner Danielle van de Donk.
Carpenter, who also plays for French Division 1 club Olympique Lyonnais, along with van de Donk, shared a photo of the pair snuggled up on a beach in the Maldives, with van de Donk appearing in a dazzling oval-cut diamond ring.
“My person for life,” the pair captioned the joint Instagram post on Monday night, adding a red love heart and ring emoji.
Carpenter, 23, and van de Donk, 32, have reportedly been dating for about a year and met while playing for the French team.
Carpenter joined the club in 2020 and van de Donk joined the following year having left English team Arsenal.
The pair didn’t reveal their romance until a year later, posting a series of photos from St Tropez after their team won the Champions League.
Their latest news comes amid a series of engagements between the beloved Matildas, as the third couple to tie the knot in the past seven months.
Matildas captain and Australian star Sam Kerr announced his engagement to teammate Kristie Mews in November.
A few months earlier, Matildas midfielder Emily van Egmond struck a deal with influencer Kat Thompson.
Kerr expressed his excitement for the newly engaged couple with a “Let’s go” and “Congratulations guys xx. “
Other teammates stepped in to fill the lovestruck couple.
Matilda’s defender Alanna Kennedy wrote: “Congratulations lovers”
“My friend is so happy for you. I love you so much too,” Emily Gielnik added.
Originally released as Matildas star Ellie Carpenter, engaged to teammate Danielle van de Donk.
With Sam Kerr going under the knife, the Matildas are going to have to rely on less familiar faces to secure their spot at the Olympics.
Former Matildas defender Emma Checker is backing the national team to win Olympic gold Sam Kerr, if they can solve a problem.
