Matildas star Ellie Carpenter made a gesture to her teammate and wife of over a year, Daniëlle van de Donk.
The 23-year-old and her Dutch fiancée delighted fans as they confirmed the news of their engagement on Monday night (AEDT).
“My username stops ❤️?!!” van de Donk captioned a selfie of the couple.
The adored sun-drenched couple smiled freely as they snuggled up on the beach.
Van de Donk, 32, showed off her oval engagement ring with satisfaction.
Friends of the Olympique Lyonnais duo flooded the comments, with many of Carpenter Matildas’ teammates wishing them both well.
“Let’s go,” Australian captain Sam Kerr wrote, adding: “Congratulations guys xx. “
Matildas forward Caitlin Foord commented “darlings,” while goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold simply added 4 heart-eye emojis to the message.
Carpenter had in the past shared a carousel of photographs from his vacation, with the caption “paradise. “
The footballers were seen riding bikes, strolling along the beach and snorkelling as they enjoyed a break from the pitch for the holiday season.
Carpenter and van de Donk met in 2021 when the latter joined their French Division One club from Arsenal.
In 2022, the couple showed off their romance by sharing combined images on social media.
This comes after the Australian defender returned to the Matildas for two friendlies in Canada in early December.
The Australian will then face Uzbekistan in Melbourne in an Olympic qualification match.
