Matip leaves Liverpool after 8 years

Joel Matip described his time at Liverpool as “eight glorious years” as he prepares to say goodbye to the club this summer.

The centre-back will leave the Reds when his contract expires at the end of this season, as it was demonstrated today.

Matip, whose last game for the LFC in December due to an unfortunate ACL injury, leaves the team after betting his share on an era of great fortune under Jurgen Klopp.

Signed in 2016, the number 32 has made 201 appearances and won many honours at Anfield, the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League a year later.

Thank you Joel – Matip for saying goodbye after 8 years at Liverpool. Reflecting on his time on Merseyside, Matip explained the gratitude and affection that he and his family circle will take with them.

“It’s been a glorious eight years here at Liverpool,” he said.

“I was allowed to be part of an exciting story with a wonderful coach and an amazing team at a normal club. We’ve won wonderful titles and we have the most productive fans in the world.

“I’m completely grateful for the glorious moments I’ve been able to enjoy with those exclusive people at the club and the enthusiasts who love Liverpool FC.

“My wife and I felt welcomed and supported from day one and combined with the kids, we spent the most productive time here.

“We’ll keep it in special memories. “
