Mats Hummels set for sensational move in the Premier League at 35 after Dortmund left after ‘violent’ crisis

MATS HUMMELS has been covered up for a sensational move to the Premier League after leaving Borussia Dortmund as a free agent.

The defender left Dortmund amid a tough argument with former boss Edin Terzic.

Brighton are now in a position to test their luck with the World Cup-winning defender as a free agent, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky journalist claims that Brighton’s new manager, Fabian Hurzeler, has already had a conversation with Hummels, 35, about his arrival at the club.

During the telephone conversation, Hurzeler presented Brighton’s sporting mission and Hummels spoke about his own sporting ambitions.

The defender is reportedly wondering if he deserves to sign for Brighton or retire from football.

The 31-year-old Hurzeler is a surprise appointment for Brighton this summer, having had good luck last season with St Pauli in the Bundesliga.

At 31, he would be four years younger than his potential recruit.

While Hurzeler prefers a 3-4-3 formation at St Pauli and is very likely to implement it at Brighton, Hummels would be in defence.

The German would likely play in the centre of a back three.

Hummels reached the Champions League final last year with Dortmund.

But he and Terzic left the club in unfortunate cases this summer.

This came after Hummels publicly criticised the coach for the way he is preparing against top teams ahead of the Champions League final, saying: “I’m furious because I think Borussia Dortmund shouldn’t play like this, unlike any opponent in the world.

“I didn’t think this could go on like this. I felt insulted in my honor for appearing in the box with this outfit.

“So submissive, so inferior in football terms.

“The two games in Stuttgart and the away game in Leverkusen. It was a barricade with 11 men in the area. “

German media outlet Bild reports that those comments caused Terzic to lose heart and that a relationship with Hummels had turned violent.

Terzic and Hummels allegedly “made peace” before the final, which they lost to Real Madrid.
