Matt Doherty erases embarrassing Tweets from Arsenal in Tottenham ad video

Matt Doherty has pasted a fair amount of sticks from Arsenal enthusiasts since becoming transparent that he would leave the Wolves to sign for Tottenham this summer.

The 28-year-old side has not hidden that he has grown up supporting Spurs’ rivals over the years and Arsenal’s Twitter team has reveled in the disappearance of a number of his old tweets in recent days.

But the shameful messages, which showed his love for the Gunners, began to disappear one by one when his movement became official on Sunday morning.

“I love ArsenalArray andArray,” one of the messages said.

Another confirmed: “Yes, I’m a big Arsenal fan!”

No doubt Doherty will have been asked about those tweets sometime in the near future, so, wisely, the defender chose to deal with them in a particularly soft ad video.

Despite his Arsenal match, Doherty insists that his resolve to sign for Tottenham this summer was “obvious.”

“I’m very proud to sign up for such a wonderful club,” he told the club’s official website.

“They have the most productive stadium in the world and the most productive educational floor in the world.

“Once I knew there was interest, it was a no-brainer to me.

“My tenure at the Wolves has been … I have nothing to say about the total club.

“I feel like coming here is going to take my game and my career to the next level.”

On the arrival of Doherty, Tottenham’s head coach, Jose Mourinho, said: “First of all, I have to thank Mr. [Daniel] Levy as a player and agent for making this happen.

“I hate to bet against him, so I’m glad I don’t have to do it anymore.

“I’m so pleased that we have it, a race for the Wolves … League One, Championship, Premier League, Europa League, did everything for them. So paintings made there.

“I know he’s leaving with a lot of pride, but it’s a new level for him and he’s full of motivation.

‘I’m so happy. Of course, we want players and the team to be possible. We’re going to have months of competition, we want a bigger team than last season.

“These 3 players, Matt, Joe [Hart] and Pierre [Hojbjerg], the club has done a task to give this to the team. It’s vital to us and we’re going to be stronger.”
