Celtic have earned a move from Juventus for sought-after midfielder Matt O’Riley.
Sky Sports News reported on Thursday that Juventus’ Serie A rivals Atalanta had noticed an initial offer was rejected through the hoops, but the offer is expected to go ahead.
The influential Celtic midfielder deserves to receive a record transfer payment if they need to sell him this summer.
Winger Jota was sold to Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad for £25m last year, with Arsenal paying less for Kieran Tierney in 2019.
O’Riley scored 19 goals and 18 assists in 49 appearances for Brendan Rodgers last season, and scored in his 6-4 preseason win at Queen’s Park last Tuesday.
The 23-year-old has a contract with Celtic until 2027, with the club rejecting an offer from Atletico Madrid in January.
Celtic are the only club in the Scottish Premiership that have yet to sign this summer but, ahead of their pre-season in the United States, Rodgers insisted there was no need to panic.
The club is Kasper Schmeichel’s latest signing, the 37-year-old goalkeeper has agreed the terms to sign for the Scottish champions.
“We would like to welcome them as soon as possible,” he said.
“But it’s a two-way thing so hopefully we can get them done in the coming weeks. Would we like to get some in before America? That’s the plan.
“I think all coaches would like to see them from day one, but the most important thing is that the players we need are on target. “
The 2024 summer move-in window is now open and closes on August 30 at p. m. United Kingdom time in England and :30 p. m. in Scotland.
The Premier League and Scottish Premiership have brought forward Deadline Day to identify links with Europe’s top leagues. The final dates were set after conversations with the leagues of England, Germany, Italy, Spain and France.
