Head coach Bill Belichick, regarded as the all-time coach in his own field, necessarily rated New England Patriots Captain Matthew Slater of the GOAT working group on Tuesday.
Slater made his ninth Pro Bowl on Monday night, two more games than former special group leader Steve Tasker. Belichick said that “you can’t think of anyone who’s done more than (Slater) as a special team player. they say Belichick is the leading expert in panels.
Patriots clearing kicker Jake Bailey, also Slater, the greatest specials player of all time on Wednesday.
All of this raises doubts as to whether or not Slater deserves to be elected to the Professional Football Hall of Fame, after his father, the Hame Hall, took Jackie Slater’s offense at the end of his career.
Four kickers and one kicker are in the Professional Football Hall of Fame, however, no player mainly used in specials politics deserved this honor.
“It’s something I’ve been thinking about, ” said Slater on Wednesday. “I think if you need to start having those conversations, you have to have them with Steve Tasker’s call because I think he paved the way for us to play. “Do I think Steve deserves a job there? Yes, absolutely.
“But what my career is and how other people see me as a player, I don’t think at all. The way men understand you has never been something that has been part of my creed and even if it makes me humble, It is vital that I continue to strive to form and form my circle of relatives in the most productive way imaginable on and off the football field. “
In the past, Tasker was widely regarded as the most productive special team of all time. And if Slater thinks Tasker entered the Hall of Fame, who are we to communicate with him?But it can be argued that Slater has been better for a long era of time and has made a greater difference in the game and phase of the game than even Tasker.
While Tasker beat Slater in the statistical breakdown, Slater won three Super Bowl titles and gave the impression in five Super Bowls as a component of the most productive dynasty in NFL history. Tasker’s Bills lost 4 consecutive Super Bowls in the 1990s, and although he is evident not guilty of defeats, he has not been part of the same kind of legacy as the Patriots captain for a long time. Slater also has two First Team All-Pro honors to his decision and has won two other Pro Bowls.
“I think of Steve Tasker as the godfather of special teams,” Slater said. “And there were many great ones who actually did it in their day. You can communicate about (Bill) Bates and others, however, I think he made it so popular high, the bar so high, that I think the coaches, when they built their teams, realized, ‘Hey, it’s a vital phase of football. We communicated a lot about three-phase football and I think there are other people who would discredit that and who wouldn’t feel that the kicking game is so vital. Array and it’s smart if you need to think that way. But in our minds, for many of us, we feel that this is a vital phase.
“We’re not saying he’s out there like Randy Moss, or Tom Brady or guys like that, but kicking is a vital component of the game, as we’ve noticed this season. I think Steve obviously had a wonderful career experience when you communicate about the game and his accomplishments on the field, but just a general ambassador of the kicking game. I think it would be great if we were ever represented among the greatest in the game. And I think it starts with Steve. . . . He’s the godfather, Man, I hope the Godfather comes one day.
Only six of the 67 eligible players with nine or more Pro Bowl appearances are not in the Hall of Fame. These possibilities are in Slater’s favor, whether Tasker is first or not, but the voting committee in the room will have to show its will to embrace the kicking game for Slater to win the nod.
