PARIS (AP) – Mauricio Pochettino arrived at the Paris Saint-Germain center on Saturday before his scheduled appointment as coach to update recently fired Thomas Tuchel.
Pochettino, 48, won a PSG mask upon entering the center, revealing the RMC Sport video. French champions were expected to announce the contract soon, when they will resume play on Wednesday in Saint-Etienne.
Pochettino would inherit a talented but under-performance team, according to PSG standards. Start the new year in the 3rd position Lyon and Lille.
The Argentine has coached Tottenham in the Premier League for five years and led the Spurs to the Champions League final in 2019.
Pochettino played 95 games for PSG as a physically powerful central defender from 2001 to 2003 and was appreciated by fans.
Tottenham fired Pochettino in November last year, a few months after the last Champions League appearance, where the Spurs lost 2-0 to Liverpool.
Similarly, Tuchel fired four months after taking PSG to the Champions League final, losing Bayern Munich 1-0.
PSG finished 2020 with a point in 3rd place after beating Strasbourg 4-0 on 23 December, but Tuchel asked after the attack on his comments to the German channel SPORT1.
