Mavropanos: I need to do my best every time I play

Konstantinos Mavropanos will be hoping that their recent performances in the cup will give them the opportunity to play in the Premier League.

Greece has made immense adjustments in the centre of defence in recent performances; his efforts in the 3-1 Carabao Cup fourth-round win over Arsenal on Wednesday earned him rave reviews from Claret and the Blue Army.

With strong performances in the UEFA Europa League as well, Mavropanos are confident that their smart form will allow them to get a first start in the Premier League for the Hammers sooner rather than later.

“Wednesday was a wonderful evening for all of us. It was an unbelievable match and all the guys worked hard. We deserved to win,” the centre-back told West Ham TV.

“We did exactly what the coach and staff asked us to do, and we brought it to the field. We faced a smart opponent and everyone worked hard, so you can see that we deserved this win.

“I try hard and when I get the chance to play, whether it’s cup games, the UEFA Europa League or the Premier League, I try to do the best I can. I hope that’s an explanation for why the coach keeps giving my chances.

“I paint hard and when I have the chance to play, whether it’s cup games, the UEFA Europa League or the Premier League, I do the best I can. I hope that’s an explanation for why the coach keeps giving me chances.

In particular, West Ham’s attacking intent in the second half of Wednesday’s cup tie was striking. Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen got results, putting the Hammers on course for a very good win.

Mavropanos willing to complement both the attacking players and the defensive unit in the win over Arsenal, with a position in the last 8 up for grabs.

He continued: “When we came out in the second half, we went straight on the attack. We had chances and scored some goals. I think after those goals, the game was definitely over.

“Everyone worked so hard. I think we were unbelievable both offensively and defensively, and everyone deserves credit for that result.

“We’re in the next game, the quarterfinals, and we’ve got to keep going. “

Beating Arsenal ended a disappointing run of spin for the Hammers and Mavropanos are convinced the Irons have taken a step forward heading into November.

The next game is at Brentford in the Premier League and the centre-back knows that the team has the quality to return to East London with the 3 points.

“We’ve had some negative effects in the last few games. We’ve lost 3 games, but this one gave us a big boost and now it’s going to be difficult for us for the games to come.
