At the University of Michigan and the sports community:

In reaction to the current situation related to the imaginable cancellation of the Big Ten 2020 school football season, we, the parents of a University of Michigan football player. we are required to explicitly express our help for our child and the training staff and training program of the Michigan Wolverines.

We can state unequivocally that Michigan football has taken all the necessary steps to ensure the quality and well-being of our child. Coach Harbaugh and his team have maintained constant communication with us. and with other parents. We are familiar with the protocols established through the University of Michigan to reduce the threat to our child and other players and maintain an environment. As such, we have general confidence in the training and medical staff of the University of Michigan.

More importantly. we have general confidence in our son and his ability to find out what is most productive to him. So, overwhelmingly your resolve to play football this fall.

We strongly believe that denying these players the opportunity to play football this season would jeopardize their fitness, their happiness and their futures. For those players that wish to play, they deserve the opportunity to play. They have spent the better part of their lives preparing for this time of their life and to rob them of the ability to play without assessing the sakty standards and protocols that have been established by a coaching and medical staff selected by the University of Michigan would have damaging long term effects.

As footballers, they perceive the threat. As young people, they perceive the consequences of their decisions. They are able to balance the possible threat with the reward. For players who decide to play. us them and them.

We believe that our child’s participation in Michigan football this fall is the best possible environment that he can be in during these uncertain times.

Lisa and Ed McCaffrey
