Memphis will resume football on Saturday, an athletics spokesman told The Commercial Appeal on Friday.
It will be 8 days since the Tigers announced on September 11 that they had suspended their football activities due to positive COVID-19 tests under the program. The sports branch said the outbreak “mainly similar to outdoor social events of official football activities. “
The Shelby County Department of Health said Wednesday that out of 46 active COVID-19 cases involving Memphis athletes, 42 cases were similar to an organization similar to the football program, but the Department of Health did imply the number of positives in the football program.
According to the Tennessee Department of Health, a coVID-19 group are “two (2) or more cases shown or likely coVID19 that are connected through the same exposure (e. g. hospital, long-term care center, grocery store, etc. ) or an exhibition occasion (e. g. racing group, vacation, etc. ) that is not a domestic exhibition. “
Memphis Athletics showed all 46 active instances on a Wednesday and also stated that it has conducted more than 3,500 COVID-19 tests since June 5 with a total of 81 positives.
The sports department, however, has not published the number of active instances in the program.
After positive testing, the Tigers and Houston postponed their scheduled game on Friday. Houston’s rescheduled game against Baylor on Saturday was also postponed after Baylor announced Friday that he had not reached cancellation thresholds for the COVID-19 game of the Big 12.
With Memphis returning to football, the Tigers are on track to play their next game scheduled for September 25 at UTSA (7 p. m. , CBS Sports).
