A day after Memphis suspended his football activities due to a series of COVID-19 tests, junior catcher Coye Fairman said Saturday on Twitter that he would retire this season.
Fairman, who played in last Saturday’s victory over Arkansas State, said his resolve motivated not only through the Tiger epidemic, but also through the circle of family members affected by COVID-19.
“It’s been a tough year. Covid has already had an effect on my circle of relatives and, despite the recent Covid outbreak, I have made the decision to withdraw from the season. THANK YOU, MEMPHIS,” Fairman wrote.
Fairman, who is from Humble, Texas, was listed as an emergency receiver in last week’s intensity chart Tahj Washington. In a young reception frame, Damonte Coxie, he was expected to increase the intensity of his fun after betting on five games last season.
He’s got a yard catch in his Memphis career.
Fairman, who graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in public relations, is the time when the Memphis player will retire due to COVID-19 issues. Offensive lineman Kenneth Gainwell announced last week that he would not play after saying he had lost 3 members of his circle of relatives to the virus.
One source told The Commercial Appeal on Friday that at least 20 other people within the show have tested positive for COVID-19 and at least 20 others are quarantined due to touch search.
The status of the Tigers’ next game against Houston on Sept. 18 remains unclear, according to the source. Memphis said Friday it would provide an update on the game next week.
