Merseyside derby date shown as Liverpool face eventful away header in name race | football

A new date has been set for the rescheduled Merseyside derby, leaving Liverpool facing an eventful week in the Premier League title race.

The Reds were due to travel to London at the end of April to face Fulham and West Ham respectively. Those visits to the capital carried over to live television coverage, with the derby at Goodison Park now sandwiched between the two.

Updated highlights of the match have been displayed on Liverpool’s official website, with dates and times rescheduled as follows:

⚪️ Fulham (A): Sunday 21 April, 16:30 ? Everton (A): Wednesday 24 April, 20:00 ? West Ham (A): Saturday 27 April, 12:30

The last of these three games could be moved to Sunday, April 28 at 14:00 if Arsenal play a Champions League match at home on Tuesday 30.

If there are no additional adjustments in those games, Liverpool will have a difficult week to manage as they fight for the Premier League title.

It would be a tough enough time even if those three games were at Anfield, and they still faced a head-to-head showdown in the 144-hour area (which will take the Reds to London, then return to Merseyside and the capital) will actually irritate Jurgen Klopp.

The coach didn’t mince words about LFC facing short delays between games last season, and he arguably wouldn’t want that to be imposed on them at that point in the campaign.

At least, with the Everton game scheduled for the earliest possible date, it means they will be eliminated once Liverpool get to May, when tension will be at its highest and the margin for error will be minimal.

Manchester City still have games to plan for most of their current schedule due to their ongoing FA Cup appearance, and they may also face Arsenal in the Champions League semi-finals if they advance in their respective last 8 games.

If the Reds manage to win that three-way call-up away from home at the top of the table, or inside the top, the prospect of Virgil van Dijk lifting the Premier League trophy at Anfield on May 19 will become increasingly plausible.
