Lionel Messi is contemplating the option of seeing the last year of his contract in Barcelona that force a move immediately, his father confirmed.
Messi, a six-time Ballon d’Or winner, has informed the Blaugrana of his departure from Camp Nou after a disappointing season in 2019-20.
Barca failed to win a bachelorette trophy and humiliated in the Champions League with an 8–2 loss in the quarter-finals to Bayern Munich.
Messi has a clause in his contract that allows him to let him loose at the end of each season, but did not take the option without delay, which led Barca to owe him 700 million euros for a transfer.
Initial discussions about a negotiated transfer to Manchester City have given way to suggestions that the Premier League club may be just a loose transfer, which would be unlikely.
And with Jorge Messi, the player’s father, in Barcelona to discuss the next step, it turns out that he agreed to have Messi stay at the club before leaving loose in 2021.
When asked if possible, Jorge replied to Sports Four: “Yes. “
Regarding the discussions with the president of the BlueGrana fire, Josep Maria Bartomeu added: “[They have been] very well”.
Messi has still publicly commented on his goal of leaving Barca, but has shown up for preseason coronavirus tests and has trained since the Champions League clash came out last month.
