MADRID (AP) – Lionel Messi returned to education with Barcelona on Monday, just two weeks after telling the club he wanted to leave.
Messi was back with the team to prepare for the new season, after reluctantly changing his mind, and said it was education from the rest of the team, as he still had to go through a moment of coronavirus control before joining his teammates.
Messi said last week that he was not satisfied with Barcelona but liked to stay and have interaction in a legal war with the “club of his life”.Messi sought to let him go, but the Catalan club said that the contract clause he was billing had already expired, so he will have to remain at least until the end of his contract in June 2021.
Messi has told Barcelona that he must leave on August 25 and did not show up for the coronavirus tests required by the team a week ago. It also appeared when his classmates returned to education last week.
The Spanish league starts this week and ends, but Barcelona will start their season until the end of the month with a home game against Villarreal.
Messi, one of the first to arrive at the team’s educational center in Barcelona on Monday, will meet personally for the first time with incoming coach Ronaldo Koeman.
Koeman Quique Setién after the embarrassing 8–2 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals on 14 August.
The Dutch coach spoke to Messi some time after the defeat and reported through the Argentine star that he did not expect to stay.
The club’s president, Josep Bartomeu, later said to keep Messi as a precedent because Koeman’s plan revolved around the player.
Messi complained about Bartomeu after declaring that he would stay, saying the president broke his word to let him through after the season.Messi said he told Bartomeu he wanted to leave several times during the season.
Koeman didn’t have a goal of retaining some key players, adding Samuel Umtiti, Arturo Vidal and Messi’s teammate and friend Luis Suárez, who also returned on Monday.
Ivan Rakitic, who was also not in Koeman’s plans, reached an agreement to move to Seville last week.
Barcelona have postponed their first two matches in the Spanish league as they played later in the season in the Champions League. The club has scheduled a friendly match against Nastic of the 3rd department on Saturday.
