Lionel Messi’s father arrived in Spain on Wednesday to meet with the leaders of the Azulgrana club and talk about his son’s future.
Jorge Messi, who is also Lionel Messi’s agent, landed in Barcelona from Argentina and will meet with the club’s president, Josep Bartomeu, and other team officials.
“I don’t know anything,” Jorge Messi said in brief comments after being questioned at the airport.
Spanish television channel Cuatro later reported that Jorge Messi had said it would be “difficult” for his son to stay in Barcelona.
Lionel Messi said last week at Barcelona that he was looking to leave the club and invoked a contractual clause that allowed him to let it loose at the end of the season, but Barcelona claimed that the clause was over in June and said that he will see his existing contract until the end of the season.June 2021, or leave it paying the termination clause of 700 million euros (837 million dollars).
Barcelona said it would not facilitate Messi’s departure and would only negotiate a contract extension, so he presented the Argentine with a two-year extension that would keep him with Barcelona in the 2022–23 season.
