Lionel Messi’s father sent a letter to the Spanish league on Friday saying his son is on the loose to leave Barcelona without having to pay the $700 million ($837 million) termination clause.
The letter arrives days after the league says Messi remains under contract until June 2021 and cannot leave without paying the penalty.
In the misiva, which he noticed through The Associated Press, Jorge Messi disputed this and said the contract allowed his son to come loose at the end of the season, which he repelled this year by the coronavirus pandemic.
Lionel Messi invoked the initial clause last week, shortly after the team’s humiliating 8–2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Barcelona claims that the clause expired on 10 June and told Messi that he had to stay until the end of his contract or pay the termination clause.
The letter of Jorge Messi, who is also Messi’s agent, sent two days after the absence of agreement in an assembly between him and the president of the Azulgrana club, Josep Bartomeu.
Apart from uncertainty about Messi’s future, Barcelona remain in crisis 3 weeks after the defeat to Bayern Munich on 14 August and there are few signs that the club is about to return to the court a few weeks after the start of the new season.
Bartomeu and incoming coach Ronald Koeman said the team’s restructuring plan revolved around the Argentine striker, so it is imperative to convince him to stay to help the Argentine striker.club comes out of one of its worst crises.
If Messi replaces his mind, there may be a long legal war, which would further damage Barcelona’s restructuring process. The club will begin its season against Villarreal in the Spanish league at the end of the month.
It is also unclear what would happen to the rest of the team after Bartomeu and Koeman announced “deep” adjustments in the first team.
Koeman said he would no longer rely on some key players, adding Ivan Rakitic, Arturo Vidal and Luis Suarez, an old friend of Messi’s and perhaps one of the reasons he asked to leave, but so far, only Rakitic has left to sign for Seville, while the others continue to regularly exercise with the rest of the team.
Antoine Griezmann, who struggled in his first season since he arrived at Atletico Madrid, can be placed with greater responsibility with veterans Gerard Piqué and Sergio Busquets, if they also stay: the newly signed youngsters Ousmane Dembélé, Ansu Fati, Riqui Puig and Francisco Trinc.or it may also have more roles.
There is a communication from Koeman in the absence of bringing new players such as Lautaro Martínez, Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum, but his transfers can in the end also explain what happens to Messi.Your departure can save a lot of cash on wages, however, if it’s a loose transfer, it can end up hurting the team’s finances.
Bartomeu has been under pressure recently and Messi has brazenly criticized some of the club’s decisions throughout the season, his first untitled since 2007-08.The season included a replacement coach and a former public indictment between players and some club.New elections were called next March and Bartomeu showed up to resign if he explained why Messi intended to do the lava.
But so far, there is no news from Messi about anything, and as he shuts up, Barcelona continues to tremble.
