The Mexican Football Federation, also known as the Mexican Football Federation, will be in the city this weekend in search of young soccer talents.
Pajaro Valley High School will host an organization of Scouts from Mexico traveling to Watsonville on March 23 and 24.
Adolfo Garcia, co-owner of Soccer Central Indoor Sports on Harkins Slough Road, reached out through FMF, which they were looking to open in San Jose.
Instead, the 49-year-old Watsonville location already offers a very skillful alternative location in the area.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for the community. If one, two, three young people make it, all the effort put in is valued,” he said.
The event, which begins at 8 a. m. , is open to children and women in the 2009-’10 and 2011-’12 age categories/groups. There is no cost, but online registration is highly recommended at idtalento. fmf. mx/#Registro.
The FMF suggests that young people arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time and be dressed in appropriate sportswear, such as a T-shirt, athletic shorts, and lawn shoes. Other necessities include an ID card and a posted sign-in sheet.
Participants may be accompanied by an adult and those who are not registered online will need to have an official parent or parent provided when registering in person.
The FMF has up to 350 participants in Scouting events. Currently, there are only 120 registered in Watsonville.
“More motivation for recruiters if there’s a longer list of attendees,” Garcia said.
For five years, Garcia was part of an organization of coaches who formed one or two organizations of the most productive players in the U. S. who would showcase their talents in Mexico.
Garcia’s daughter, Melissa, was part of a team that went to Mexico. The 18-year-old has played for soccer clubs such as Watsonville PV United, FC Bay Area and San Jose Earthquakes Academy.
In 2023, FMF traveled to the Bay Area for the first time for women. This year, they’re back to look at the women’s and men’s players.
“[The FMF] knows that our region is well known for its soccer talent,” Garcia said. “They need to come here and see for themselves what opportunities they can offer the kids. “
Garcia never had the opportunity to play soccer while growing up in a small town south of Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico. For him, life has been a chore since he moved to Watsonville about 36 years ago. It wasn’t until Melissa Worried About Soccer was given, at age 5, that he plays too.
According to the FMF official, the main objective of the ability identity is to promote and disseminate the practice of soccer for all Mexicans through the study and experience of players in the 2009-2010 and 2011-2012 age categories/groups. in other locations in the country. Mexico and the United States.
He also points out: “As the Mexican Football Federation we have the legal responsibility to stumble upon and expand female and male talents interested in soccer and the opportunity to succeed in the Mexican national team and constitute the country at a foreign level. “
Scouts are expected to visit 10 cities across the United States over two days. In Watsonville, all participants will be observed on March 23 and complex players will participate in the second level the following day.
The best players in the city will be selected to participate in a regional clinic. After the clinic, the organization’s top 23 players by age will move on to the final at the Casa del Fútbol, FMF Toluca.
These players have an imaginable possibility of being called up to the Mexican national team in their respective groups.
Watsonville local Jose Martinez helped organize this weekend’s screening by connecting with Pajaro Valley Unified School District Administrator Daniel Dodge Jr. , who then made it happen.
Martinez said he was looking for young people to say they were part of anything that could potentially be part of his expansion into soccer. He also wants them to have the vision to compete at the highest level.
“It’s a wonderful visibility for the kids of the Watsonville network, and not only in the Watsonville network but also outside of the Central Coast, to show that there’s a lot of skill here,” he said. “It’s going to be a wonderful opportunity to put our names on the map and say it’s not just about Silicon Valley. “
Martinez was part of a program that brought MLS Next to Watsonville and prior to that, he began coaching the Soquel High JV soccer team in late 2003. He is in the process of creating his own program to help young soccer players in the right. address. address.
Martinez, who graduated from Watsonville High in 2001, said exposure opportunities were limited for him and most of the young football players who grew up in the city.
Nowadays there are social networks and other platforms to create a trailer. But for Martinez, it’s not just about being talented. She would like to see parents get more involved, as coaches can’t teach much.
“These kids want guidance, discipline, progress,” he said. A lot of kids say, ‘I’m going to go pro,’ but no. My purpose is to go to school, stay in school, get an education, and open the doors to school career.
Garcia said the closest thing to being seen on a professional soccer team is participating in the national tournament of the Soccer Alliance. One of the tournaments takes place at the Morgan Hill Sports Center in August.
“A few kids have made it to the Alianza Cup, but other than that, I’ve never heard of others coming in and recruiting,” Garcia said. “I think it’s a smart opportunity. “
The FMF wants volunteers to help with in-person registration and show attendees where to go. Experienced coaches who are willing to volunteer their time are also welcome.
