Mikel Arteta will rush Riccardo Calafiori to make his Arsenal debut when the Gunners take on Liverpool this week.
Calafiori finalized his £42million move from Bologna to Arsenal on Monday, signing a five-year deal.
The Italian defender joined Arsenal on their tour of the United States and trained on Monday as he looks to catch up.
Calafiori hopes to work with the rest of the squad on Tuesday and after that session, Arsenal will if they take part in their friendly against Liverpool on Wednesday night.
“He had a long flight and a medical exam in the last 24 hours,” said Mikel Arteta, speaking overnight in Philadelphia.
“Today he didn’t do anything with the team and he probably coaches some games. Let’s see how it goes, there’s no need to rush anything. If he is available and in good shape, so much the better.
“You need to integrate the player into your culture, your team and your ethics as soon as possible and that takes a bit of time, especially when you leave another country. “
Calafiori described his move to Arsenal as a “dream” and was convinced to sign after initial meetings with Arteta and sporting director Edu.
The Gunners beat other clubs, adding Juventus, to point out to the 22-year-old and him how his Italian teammate Jorginho also played a role in securing his move to the Emirates Stadium.
“I think this is the most productive task for me in the next few years and I think I will be as a player,” Calafiori said.
“I spoke a lot with the coach and with Edu and they convinced me, but I already convinced on my own.
“I just met [Jorginho] a month ago, but I see that he is a very intelligent guy. I already convinced him but he forced me.
“He said: ‘Come, come, come! You will enjoy being here, the team is there and the staff, everything is good. ‘ You can already see that from the first minutes here.
