Florence-born architect Angelo Renna stores his concept of transforming the mythical San Siro stadium into a monument to those who suffered coVID-19. in Italy, almost 35,000 other people died during the coronavirus pandemic and the city of Milan was one of the main epicentres. With plans already underway to demolish the football stadium, which was first built in 1926, this assignment aims to save the design and remind those who unfortunately lost their lives to COVID-19.

Angelo renna proposes to remodel the existing bleachers into green terraces and plant 35,000 semperviren cupressus (also known as Italian cypress) along the new retaining walls. Cypress is a decorative non-unusual tree cultivated for millennia in the Mediterranean region. the vertical dark green shape is a characteristic feature of cemeteries and sacred spaces, as a symbol of immortality or emblem of life after death. The complex and thick crown of this species also provides habitat for birds, loir, squirrels, lizards and many other animals.

The task also proposes the complete demolition of the roof to allow the softness of the herbs and precipitation to succeed in the soil. New systems will be placed under the forums: a museum, a study center, workshops for academics and scholars. at the bottom, a new concave shape of the terrain will allow the option to collect rainwater, creating water spaces (wadi). water will be collected in underground tanks and reused for irrigation and cleaning purposes. in the event of heavy rains, the wadi domain will flood, supporting the biodiversity of other species of flora and fauna.
Existing stands will be on green terraces to allow the planting of trees.
With almost 80,000 seats, the San Siro is one of the largest and most vital stadiums in the world. Construction began in 1926 in the suburban district of Milan called San Siro. the architect, ulisse stacchini, designed a personal stadium only for football, without athletics courts, which characterized the Italian stadiums built at the time. From 1948 to 1955, armando Ronca and Ferruccio Calzolari engineers evolved the allocation by the time of the expansion of the stadium, which raised the capacity to 60,000 seats and 25,000 seats of category. the last primary renovation of San Siro, which claimed $60 million, was the 1987-1990 renovation for the 1990 FIFA World Cup. it was about modernizing the stadium by expanding its capacity to 85,000 spectators and building a blanket.

Today AC Milan and Inter-Milan have presented their offer to demolish the stadium and build a new space of 60,000 seats on the same site. the municipality was divided on the allocation and requested the opinion of the Italian estate authorities. according to the report, which was recently published, “the well-appointed ‘estadio giuseppe meazza (san siro) has no cultural interest and, as such, is excluded from the provisions of coverage”. Although the approval of the Italian heritage framework is not the final decision, it can be only a vital step towards the complete demolition of the building.
