Amid all the excitement surrounding UIL’s biennial realignment on Thursday, the announcement made waves across the state, starting with repercussions in Coastal Bend.

Among the roster outside of Miller’s district is a telltale competition that protects Class 6A Division II champion DeSoto in Week Three at a tentatively scheduled neutral location in San Marcos.

DeSoto was scheduled to move to Class 5A Division I as part of the realignment, but opted to move in with Class 6A, and Justen Evans scheduled the game in hopes of setting his team up for the heartbreakers of what he hopes will be a deep playoff series with the Bucs now in Class 5A Division II.

Miller saw a three-run lead evaporate in their regional final on the road at the Brownsville Veterans Memorial as the Bucs sought their first state semifinal appearance since 1963.

In recent years, the Corpus Christi groups have competed in some inter-regional matchups, adding the Refugio home-and-away series with Mart, Calallen and Miller programming Waco La Vega 3 and 4 seasons ago.
