Takumi Minamino admits that he had “other options” when moving to Liverpool, with Shinji Kagawa’s recommendation sought before opting to check his luck at Anfield.
A series of impressive outings for Red Bull Salzburg, especially in the Champions League, have caught the attention of the big European clubs towards the Japanese.
Jurgen Klopp, however, won the race for a much-sought-after signing, and Liverpool made the decision to put a deal worth 7.25 million pounds ($10 million) in the January moving window.
The opponents’ interest was rejected by the deal at stake, with former Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United kagawa star convincing a compatriot that Merseyside was the right position for him.
Minamino told Super Soccer about its discussions with Kagawa: ‘Yes, I said’ What do you think? ‘ when I keep thinking, I keep thinking because there were other features so … what club I can’t tell you!
Kagawa said: “He (Klopp) is a coach who has smart players.”
“I tried to pay attention to the words of Kagawa, who was with Klopp.”
Minamino made 14 appearances for Liverpool at the time he was part of the 2019–2020 campaign, which allowed him a historic Premier League win.
He is honored to be part of such an illustrious team, but has not yet discovered his spark in England while awaiting a first revealing contribution to the cause.
Minamino added: “We won the league and I am very pleased to have been enjoying it. But I was looking to have goals or assists.
“I give them a lot of attention, so it’s bad luck I can’t do it.”
Although he has still reached the expected heights of him in Liverpool, Minamino is confident that his game will advance by racing under Klopp.
He said of betting with an enigmatic German coach who has set up a satisfied camp at Anfield: “In our team, players who can’t play in an attack never talk about it.
“Look at the education of the alternates from start to finish.
To fit players, he says “they have a chance in the next game.”
“He is impartial. We can just feel it, so we think we have a chance if we paint hard. It’s one thing.
