Missouri bicentennial duvet will arrive in Jefferson City next week.
10 to 18 hs. On Tuesday, the duvet will be exhibited at the Lodge, 3211 Masonic Court.
The bicentenary duvet created to celebrate Missouri’s 200th anniversary, to be celebrated on August 10, 2021.
The Missouri State Historical Society and The Missouri Star Quilt Company, in partnership with the Missouri State Quilter Guild, created the duvet design presentations for Missouri residents.
The duvet consists of 121 blocks, one for the county in the state, one for the city of St. Louis and some extras, some to constitute the Missouri Division of Tourism, the Missouri Star Quilt Company, the Missouri State Quilters Guild and the Missouri Historic State Society.
The drawings incorporate a series of images, adding animals, state symbols, buildings, noted Missouri inhabitants and opposing landscapes to a soft brown background.
Presentations for duvet blocks were accepted from October 8, 2018 to September 2, 2019. A committee of judges chose the duvet blocks to load them into the final duvet.
Two of the duvet squares were created through duvets.
The Cole County block features a black-and-white symbol of Lewis and Clark Trailhead Plaza with the dome of the Missouri State Capitol in the background. The square created through Janise Manchester on behalf of the Lewis and Clark Working Group of Jefferson City.
Another Jefferson City landmark, the Missouri Governor’s Mansion, is also on the quilt. This square created through Dianna Price on behalf of the Friends of the Missouri Governor’s Mansion.
A full gallery of duvet blocks can be discovered on the Missouri 2021 Bicentennial website.
Now that the duvet is finished, it is able to be taken in the state and displayed. After the Jefferson City stop, the duvet will head to Paris, Moberly and Lancaster in August, with long-term dates and stops to be announced on the site.
