Mohamed Salah said it would be his “last year” at Liverpool, strengthening his motivation for a name in the Premier League.
The Egyptian’s contract expires at the end of the season and has expressed frustration that no progress has been made on a new deal.
Despite this existing saga, Salah is in sensational form, with 17 Premier League goals and thirteen assists already under his belt, and this has helped Liverpool break through domestically and in Europe.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Manchester United on Sunday, Salah revealed this is the first season his desire to win the Premier League is stronger than the ambitions for Champions League glory.
“Probably because we didn’t celebrate the game we won with the club like we wanted to,” the Egyptian responded, as Liverpool were unable to register their fans to celebrate the 2019/20 name due to lockdown restrictions.
“And also coming back here, it’s my last year in the club, so you want to do something special for the city. That was the thing in my head.”
Pressed on whether he really believes this will be his last season at Liverpool, Salah said: “So far yes, last six months. There is no progress there, we are far away from any progress. So we just need to wait and see.
“What I think is: If this is your last six months or your last year, what do you need to see in the future?Do you need to look back and say I was involved with the contract or stressed?I just need to say that I had a season.
“Now it’s in my head. If I’m feeling a little distracted, I remind myself that I need to look back and say I had a season. That’s what I need to do. “
