Mohamed Salah says he and Liverpool ‘far away’ from positive update on contract talks

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah said he is “far” from being able to offer a positive update on his contract situation.

The Athletic reported in early December that Liverpool had made an opening contract offer to the 32-year-old, whose existing terms expire at the end of this season.

Asked if he could provide intelligent news about the ongoing contract negotiations, Salah told Sky Sports: “No. We are far from that. But again, I don’t need to put anything in the media and other people start to say things, However, nothing has moved.

“For now, the only thing on my mind is Liverpool winning the league and I want to be part of that. That is the only thing I’ve focused on since the beginning of this season.”

The opening contract that will be offered through Liverpool previously this month did not mean an agreement in position or fact.

Despite the growing conviction in Anfield that Salah and Virgil Captain Van Dijk, who also has the last months of his contract with Liverpool, will remain in the club beyond next summer, lately there is no certainty.

The solution will most likely be to take some time, which is not ideal for Liverpool given that Salah and Van Dijk, as well as Academy graduate Trent Alexander-Arnold, who also scored in the win at the London Stadium, may signal a pre-substitution. Reaching an agreement with foreign teams on January 1, but the three have already received proposals from the club and talks are continuing.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot said on Salah’s form: “Mo and the word ‘extraordinary’ is something I’ve heard a lot in the last six months. He truly deserves this and probably in the last eight years, but I’m involved in the last half year. I don’t think he keeps surprising us because we know what a player he is and we know what he’s able to do.”

“He works very hard for the team when the other team has the ball. We can hope that he can continue to deliver those performances. “

Slot also showed that defender Joe Gómez will remain on the sidelines after suffering an injury in the hamstring opposite to West Ham. The 27 -year -old went up after 37 minutes, replaced through Jarell Quanseah.

When asked about Gomez, the Slot said: “You saw today an injury to Joe Gomez. If a player says he wants to stop, he has to be changed. In a sprint, then we all know it’s a hamstring and we all know it’s going take a while before he is back.

“I don’t know how long he will be out yet. These conditions can last for a while.

Liverpool, who have 8 problems obviously in the Premier League most sensible with a game in hand, are next in action opposite Manchester United at Anfield on January 5.
