Mohamed Salah says he needs to ensure a second name in the Premier League, since he once warned that this is his last season in Liverpool.
Negotiations over a new contract for the Egyptian star have been going on for months without any breakthrough.
Salah, 32, told Sky Sports’ Patrick Davison he wants to achieve “something special” this year.
“The first thing on the list is to win the Premier League with Liverpool,” he said.
“In my interviews over the last seven or eight years, I say I need to win the Champions League. But this is the first time I’ve said I really need to win the Premier League with Liverpool. “
Salah has been in imperious form, leading the league in (17) and assists (13) this season.
However, after Sunday’s 5-0 thrashing of West Ham, he told Sky Sports a deal to stay at Liverpool was still “far away”.
The star has said in the past that this season will be his “last year” at the club, and when asked through Davison if he believed it, he said: “So far, yes. It’s the last six months. “
“There is no progress there. We are far from any progress. So we just want to wait and see. “
Salah said he does not seek to be distracted by the touch situation.
“What I think is, if it’s the last six months, what do you need to see going forward?” He told Sky Sports.
“Do you need to look again and say I was worried or under pressure about the contract?Or do you just mean that I had an amazing season? That’s what I have in mind.
“If I ever feel distraction, I just remind myself I want to look back and say I had an unbelievable season. That’s what I want to do.”
Salah said at one point in the Premier League his purpose because “We didn’t celebrate the one we won in the way we wanted [due to Covid restrictions] and also, coming back here too, it’s my last year at the club, so you need do something special for the city. “
He said the idea was that the team, which still has Klopp as key players in the era of success, needed some other trophy for a big team.
“The team still wants a trophy. There are still part of the team left like me, Trent [Alexander-Arnold], Virgil [Van Dijk], Alisson, Robbo [Andy Robertson],” he said.
“It’s necessary for us to win another trophy before we all go.”
